Driving sustainability forward with GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB and ECO LOOP

We are in the business of professional engine cooling since 1929. Since then we are constantly working on further developments and improvements of our premium engine coolant GLYSANTIN®:
Engine protection for better durability of materials, reduced fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions and recycling concepts are important topics for us. We are also working on reducing the use of virgin fossil feedstock making our manufacturing processes more efficient and improving our product packaging e.g. we are replacing virgin fossil raw materials with recycled or renewable raw material in the BASF value chain or using recycled material for our packaging.

One example is the ECO product family from GLYSANTIN® comprising the two lines ECO BMB and ECO LOOP. GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB combines premium coolant performance with a certified breakthrough:
it replaces fossil-based raw materials with renewable feedstock, reducing the product carbon footprint significantly without compromising on quality or OEM approvals. GLYSANTIN® ECO LOOP is part of BASF´s committment to circular economy by using recycled MEG in order to e.g. minimize waste.

Are you looking for high-quality engine coolants with reduced carbon footprint? Do you value circular economy? Then we have something for you: Learn more about our GLYSANTIN® ECO products and find the right one for you and the engine you want to protect.
GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB
With biomass balance approach (BMB), renewable raw materials such as bio-naphtha or biomethane are already used to replace fossil feedstocks at the beginning of our value chain to produce individual products. The required amount of renewable raw materials is then attributed to specific sales products such as GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB via a mass balance approach. The GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB products are certified according to the REDcert2 certification scheme by TÜV Nord.

With this approach a GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB product has a significantly lower Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of at least 80% compared to the standard fossil product.

In Europe, the 1-litre bottles of our GLYSANTIN® products are also manufactured using recycled plastic waste, thus supporting the circular economy and reducing the consumption of fossil resources.

In addition to the biomass balance approach, BASF is looking at other ways to improve the sustainability profile of its product range. Current projects include a variety of initiatives, such as circular economy solutions using both mechanical and chemical recycling approaches.
REDcert^2 standard certification
Independent sustainability certification by TÜV Nord according to the REDcert2 scheme
BASF has established a closed chain of custody from the renewable feedstock it uses through to the final product. An independent certification confirms that BASF has replaced the required quantities of fossil resources for the biomass balanced product with renewable feedstock. GLYSANTIN® ECO BMB products are certified according to the REDcert2  certification scheme, TÜV Nord - International certifier and BASF is the first chemical company with REDcert2 -certification.

Our GLYSANTIN® 1-liter bottles contain post consumer recycled (PCR*) material
Recycling is a beneficial practice that allows plastic waste to be reused as raw material. Thereby it reduces waste and saves resources. This is what we are implementing with GLYSANTIN® in its new 1-liter bottles available in the European, Middle Eastern and African regions. The 1-litre bottles of GLYSANTIN® G30®, G40®, G64®, G65® (concentrates and ready mix) consist of 85% recycled material (PCR). We invite you to join us in our practice and put your empty bottle into the proper recycling system.

*Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) material refer to plastic produced from consumer waste material discarded by households, commercial businesses, industries and institutions.
